Hardly any sunshine today, which was good for travelling. We had a nice afternoon and evening with my lovely MIL.
Sometime ago I saw a tutorial on easy mixed media backgrounds and one of them was writing with sharpies in 4 directions and then gesso over the top. Not all the colours have the same properties so it's a bit hit and miss at first.
I used two types of paper (top left). 1-4 are the originals, 1A -4A were after a coat of gesso. 4B I drew with a black sharpie and then added another coat of gesso. The results were surprising.
With these I did patterns followed by gesso, not being overly impressed I used 2 of them for backgrounds and used my favourite two as they were. 3 others make my total of 7 ICADS for this week.
I have signed up for Journalpetite with Alisa Burke. You can work in a small journal/notebook or you can use loose pages. I have an A5 book that when the pages are folded in half should fit the bill.

Another interesting new technique - it’s amazing what folks come up with! I think the sharpie backgrounds work really well and how great that they seem reasonably quick to do as well. I’m appreciating the lower temps too, dont’ think I could cope with the predicted temps in Europe.

I hope your driving days are all cool! So disappointed by the change in the weather, I think I could live in a climate like June has been without any problem at all! Loving the sharpie action, what a great idea, and something actually quite attainable by those of us who don't have shed loads of mixed media products. And very nice to sit in the garden and doodle with coloured pens...almost taking me back to what got me into paper crafting to begin with!
What an interesting experiment . . . must try this one myself, I often get stuck for backgrounds on my ATCs. Thank you for sharing

Interesting technique and loving the patterns. I always love technique to try out especially when I can use up some old stash. The weather here is cooler today and quite windy but a bit more comfortable. Wishing you a very happy and creative woyww. Hugs, Angela x9x
I like the concept Angela. My gesso is so thin, it probably wouldn't cover as well as yours did. I have also noticed how different Sharpies leave different colors when thinned with something like water or alcohol.

Would have been nice to try these ideas out sitting in the sunshine but all it's done is rain these past few days. I quite like the effect you got and love how you did the different experiments.

I love the "hidden writing", I have used that a bit in my journal, especially when I want to write what I REALLY think! It's great for getting out emotions, because it doesn't matter even if you can't read it yourself! This was actually one of the tutorials in Fodder School #1! Hope you have fun with the challenge! I've done 2 of the 4 days so far, I haven't checked out Day 4 yet. I like that you don't feel as if you have to do them all. Thanks for your visit, Lindart #17
Oh I really like the writing in different directions one, must try it. I have just signed up for the Fodder Challenge (see Sylvia #15), think you might like it too. I have just got my $30 gift card for the website I do my scripture cards on and she has just posted me the pocket journaling Bible, it might take some time to get here from Jamaica though 2-6 weeks.
