These are the pages of the book I showed you last week. It is a very easy book to make and you can use 12 x 12 papers or A4 papers. It fits together concertina style which means the pages are double thickness. I have drawn you a diagram to show how the book is made up.
Each page is 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 , so place your paper in your scoring board and score at 4 1/4, then at 8 1/2.
Turn your page a 1/4 turn and cut into 3 1/4 inch strips. you will end up with 3 1/4 x 12 strips if you have used 12 x 12 paper.
Fold all your strips using a bone folder for good creases.
I used 9, but you can use more or less. (9 strips gives you 9 pages or 18 sides, but the first and last sides will be your inside covers.
Stick the short flap on the first strip to the back of the first long flap on the second strip. The bottom arrows on the diagram show this.
To assemble the book, counting every 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 as a side, stick the second and third sides together then the third and fourth as indicated by the top arrows in diagram. Cut off the last short flap.
I inked all the edges of my pages included the edge by the spine.
To make the cover:
My spine measured 1/4 inch. the thickness of your paper and the number of pages may alter this measurement, so check with a ruler first. Cut a piece 11 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches. Score at 5 1/2 and 5 3/4.
Mitre corners as shown in diagram. Fold over excess and stick the covers of your pages the inside of the cover.
When you add your patterned paper it will cover all the edges.
Your book is now ready for you to fill and decorate.
I hope this all makes sense :)
