Digital Art - No Star is ever lost and Free on Friday

When I started this piece, I wanted to use something I used in my tutorial the other day.  I also wanted to use a paint spray that I had photographed, beyond that I had nothing specific in mind.   I began by placing the negative version of the cycle in place, a second part of that page was placed on the right and turned 45 degrees.  Then I added the paint spray to the left, playing with the colour, blending and place for a while.  I really liked the rich dark colour (blending layer exclusion), but softened the effect with a second spray paint underneath, offset so the colour showed.

I  added the music and then tried an image from a book cover which didn't work so looked again and came up with this sweet little girl.  The dark area was the perfect place for the main quote and I also added a further quote and a butterfly, finishing with the stars.   Nearly all the layers have been blended in PS Elements.  Both of the quotes were on old images from a book from the Gutenberg site.

Now for today's free images I have some more circles for you.

Hope you have a great weekend x

Got a camera on your phone? --Tutorial

Do you take pictures with your mobile phone?  When I am getting a new phone, the first I want to know is what the camera is like.  I don't see the point of having an expensive phone if the camera is useless - but that's just me :)   My phone fits in my handbag and comes everywhere with me - except when I forget it :(    If I see something that interests me I take a photograph.  Sometimes I get an idea, but if I don't take that photograph I forget what the idea was, sometimes I see something I can work with.  These are my recent snaps:

All but one from pub pictures and restaurants.  If I can't get up fairly close without annoying another customer I don't do it.  Depending on the position of lights etc, reflections can be a problem.  The deer/woman was in a dark corner so the flash came on.  You can see how dark it is without the flash.  Email yourself the photographs taking car to choose maximum quality, and download them to your computer.

I have PS Elements 11, so these guidelines may need altering for your program.

With each picture you will need to alter the size and change to 300 resolution.  Some pictures are easier to work with than others.  I like my background colour set to white.

The original has some reflections in it which need dealing with first.  I selected and copied small areas of the wheels and pasted them over the shiny bits.  The next thing I did was to use the selection tool, unclick "contiguous", this means that where ever that colour is, it will be selected.  Hold "shift" down as you add colours to your selection.  You will find that there are many different shades of the colour which all need selecting.   By zooming in you can see which areas are not yet selected.  When you are happy with your selection, press control and x.  You can see at once if you have missed some areas - no problem, press control and z to go back one step. Hold "shift" down again and add the missed areas.  You can repeat this until you have got all the areas.  A final control and x, then go to File, New, Image from clipboard.  This will put your selection in a new file.

At this point you can save your file, you can see I had a little area of background too.
This is what was left behind and is equally gorgeous, so save this too!
You can select the background instead,  use select, inverse and fill the area with black.
This one didn't need much doing at all.

I hope this has been of use to you.  Any questions please ask.
See you soon x

Free on Friday 17 February 2017

Today I had no plans except for doing my blog.  Then my daughter telephoned as I was getting dressed suggesting a quick trip out which included cake!  So naturally I said yes, the pecan Danish Pastry was delicious :)    She came back with me and we had a cup of tea, then my daughter in law arrived and this time I had coffee. Next my grand-daughter arrived for a spot of reading (very enjoyable); my daughter returned with her two as I was doing a short spell of babysitting, we had dinner and the house was filled with happy, but noisy children.  Such lovely peace when they were collected :) and it was bedtime before I remembered my blog - oops!  So here you are free for you on Friday xx

Again one set with shaded edges and one without.

Take care and have a great weekend x

Free on Saturday

Yesterday we went to a funeral - my husbands Aunt.  Dementia is a cruel illness to both the sufferer and the family.  If a funeral can said to be lovely, it was a lovely funeral when we came outside we looked around us and it was very well planned out.  With birds singing and a beautiful pheasant wandering around, seemingly unaware of all the people.  A peaceful setting for a sad occasion.  It is a shame we reserve such family get togethers for only one or two occasions.

This is the card I designed and today I am offering it to you free, to save for when you need it.   I created the background from parts of an old postcard back, the flower came from clipart.com.  The font, Black Chancery is one of my favourites.

Have a great weekend.  We are traveling home today and shall have done over 1000 miles by the time we get back. x

New Digital Art

I have been creating - digitally for a change.  I have been wanting to do some for ages.  I started out with a black and white owl picture.  I added some vintage roses from Clipart.com and some paint splatters from Pixelscrapper.com.  Then I altered a vintage crown by cutting away the top half and used the blending layers function in Photoshop Elements.  Whilst adding the different elements I was of course changing the colours till I was happy!

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
James 1:5 (NIV)

I am entering this in the following challenges:

This challenge has add red as an optional, my art was completed before I checked the challenge, but amazingly I have splashes of red above the word "Ask

Anything Goes

Hope you have a great week x

Free on Friday 3rd February 2017

Hello and welcome to Free on Friday.  It is the start of another month - Valentine's Day coming up!  According to this site  http://www.nationaldaycalendar.com/february/  today is "National Carrot Cake Day".  I happen to love carrot cake and sometimes even gluten free carrot cake is lovely.  I am not a big fan of gluten free stuff, although I have found a wonderful chocolate caterpillar cake and some really good biscuits, for when I want to indulge :)

Tomorrow I am off to a craft show with a couple of friends who are both saying there is not much they want to buy.  I am waiting till I get there to see what goodies are on offer!

Here are today's freebies.  I have done some more circles with a choice of shading or not.
