Free on Friday - Little Bird

A warm welcome to Free on Friday at Crafting With Jack.

This is one of my latest cards, I still have some of these lovely nature pictures left, but I think it's time to move on to another group of images.   this week I have been trying to sort out my die cuts.  I have been storing them in A6 pockets, cut from a photo album and they have a white middle piece, so it is not always easy to find things.. I came up with this idea.  I have put my smaller die cuts into card pocket pages.  Now this idea is not perfect, the pockets are a bit small, but the die cuts are more visible.  I keep them in a Really Useful storage box, which is just slightly bigger than the pocket pages.   I have just tied the pages together at the moment and put the bigger stuff underneath.  I don't know if they make these pocket pages with bigger pockets, but I shall pop over to Amazon and find out!

Today I have a little bird for you, I hope you like him/her!

Owl always love you

If you join the Dragons Lair Designs Fan Group on Facebook you can get a free digi every month for as long as you colour and enter the image.  This month's image is a baby owl.

I coloured the owl with my promarkers, scanned it and completed the rest in PSE.

A few more cards and a challenge

I have done a few more cards today - amazing what you can get done when your husband is out for the day!  He has been helping redecorate my son's house and has been out all week.

A little challenge for you.  Post a picture of your craft room when you are in the middle of creating.  Add your link to your post so I can come and see your photographs.  This is what my craft room looks like when I am creating.  I think maybe this will go, get some stuff out, not quite right - get some more stuff out - not really - get some more stuff out.  It does all get put away again when I have finished, I use the floor space too.  Is it the way I have stuff stored that makes everything so difficult - do you have a better way?  Let me know - please!

I look forward to some helpful answers or at least pictures of rooms like mine so I know I am not alone :)     Join me tomorrow for Free on Friday x

Discovering gold and a few more cards

Sometimes you find a shop or site that makes you want to tell everybody!  I have found such a place:)  I have spent rather a lot on crafts recently and so I knew I couldn't place an order yet, but I did contact the owner and say how pleased I was to find the site.  I usually consider myself quite good on Google, but when I was searching for these products before I could only find sites in America and the postage makes them expensive.  The site is called Calico Craft Parts and here is their information.

If you're looking for something different, you've come to the right place!  We're a family run UK business and we specialise in the design and manufacture of wood craft products including birch plywood plaques, MDF wood shapes, craft blanks and kits.

Our products are ideal for altered art, home decor, craft fair makes and gifts, paper crafting and so much more - we manufacture many unique designs and there's regular updates from the Design Team with new project ideas and inspiration!

We hope you enjoy creating with our products as much as we enjoy making them.
...........................

I did a "Print Screen" so I could show you a page on their site.

Here are a few cards I made today:

I am entering the first swan card in the Outlawz challenge, Twisted Thursday with the twist being "On the farm".  If I had a farm I know there would be swans on my pond!

Check out Calico Craft Parts, I am off to order and maybe paint them gold :)  See you soon x

I'm a Winner!

I hope you all had a great Easter Weekend :)  I spent all of Easter Sunday in bed :(  I felt much better by half past six, so whatever it was it was of short duration.   Monday I had a surprise email saying I had won first prize in the Gecko Galz Easter shopping spree.  I had won 100 dollars of digital downloads, at first I thought it was a spoof email so I checked on the blog and yes I had won.  I had a wonderful shopping spree at the Gecko Galz Etsy shop Monday evening and all my goodies arrived today.

Gecko Galz give away free digital images like this chick and they have a pair of rabbits there this week so check them out.
No I don't know about you, but I have papers and images in my craft room that are years old.  Some of them were free in magazines, some I bought, started cutting out and got no further.  So I decided to make some cards as my spare card box was almost empty.  It took me most of Saturday to make these two, I couldn't seem to get them right - perhaps that bug was kicking in!

See you soon x

Free on Friday and why is it Good Friday?

Today is Good Friday, for me it is the saddest day of the year.  The day they crucified Jesus.  Why on earth is it called "Good Friday"?  In Germany it is called Karfreitag (Sorrowful or Mourning Friday), which seems entirely more appropriate.
It is thought the word "good" as applied to Good Friday is either a corruption of "God's Friday" or related to the word "Holy".    It is also "good" in terms of being beneficial, Jesus died for us.  It is a day to think about the how and why of Jesus' death.  I am so thankful for Easter Sunday!

Handbag "Box" Card plus

I designed a new header for my Facebook page as I was getting mixed up with my Crafting With Jack page - it doesn't take much to confuse me :)    I made a handbag "box" card for my daughter in law's birthday.  I don't know if you can see in the photo below, but, I separated the box into two sides and part of the base.  One of the side ends on each piece was cut on the angle so the box would be narrower at the top.  I put a fabric strip around the top and added a fabric handle.  I also added a couple of tags and a flower cluster finally I put some gold net inside for decoration.

How to get messy, recycle and use up your stash, plus Free on Friday.

A warm welcome to Crafting With Jack, as I type this Jack is nowhere to be seen, I expect he has gone upstairs for a nap!  Holly and Annie are with me on the couch and Red is in the next chair. Napping is next on my agenda as I have quite worn myself out today.  I have gone box-making crazy and this morning I have two! Well one is actually more of a cover and is not finished so I am showing one I finished a couple days ago and one from this morning.

The top picture is my paper stash box, previously these were in draws and difficult to flick through, also a lot of them were free with magazines and although nice were a bit thin.  So I slapped on the glue and glued these papers down, not worrying particularly what went with what as these were a first layer.  A few layers of paper strengthens the box as well as making it look nice, the thinner the paper the more layers you will need.  When I had finished I picked some nice pictures and decorated the box with them.

When I put my papers in them they slid down :(  I got a couple of cereal boxes, cut them to size, covered them and placed them in my box - perfect :)

The box below is for my paints, I covered it with a piece of wallpaper and lined it with card.  I also made the base more even by "filling in" with waste card from the box in between the flaps and covering that with a piece of card from the box lid.  I think this will strengthen the base.

I lost count of the number of times I washed my hands as they has glue all over them - I am sure everybody isn't as messy as me :)  I gave a good coat of Mod Podge over the final box to make it last longer and make it nice and shiny.

On to your freebies:

Have a great weekend, who know what I shall be making this weekend?

Announcing New Challenge Blog

I hope the weather is as nice for you as it is here - the sun is shining and the sky is blue.  I have an exciting announcement for you.  I am taking part in a new "anything goes" challenge blog, along with friends Teresa and NanaConnie.

The new challenge blog - 2 Crafty Critter Crazies - is live with our very first challenge.  Any kind of craft is acceptable with just one little catch!  It has to have some kind of critter, be that furry, feathered, scaled, tiny or huge!  That's right from ladybirds to elephants, a critter has to be the main feature on your craft.

Our first monthly challenge is sponsored by MHK Designs.  They are offering the adorable "Hoppy Bunny" set used by our team plus a set of digital papers of the winner's choice.  MHK Designs have a challenge too this month and I have entered my card.  I am also entering this card in The Outlawz  Twisted Thursday challenge.

Here is my card.

I do hope you will join us.
